Details
National Occupational Health and Safety Day-2021 has been celebrated at the initiative of the Department of Inspection of Factories and Establishments (DIFE), Sylhet Office under the Ministry of Labor and Employment. It was presided over by Deputy Inspector General Tapan Bikash Tanchangya. April 26 has been celebrated every year since 2016. The theme of this year's day is "Promise of Mujib Year, Safe Work Environment for All".

Abu Taher Md. Shoaib, President of The Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other owners, managers and labor leaders of various industries in Sylhet and Sunamganj districts participated in the hour-long discussion on the existing coronavirus infection situation online (Zoom Platform). The context, importance and significance of Occupational Health and Safety Day were presented at the meeting. Provisions regarding occupational health and safety in the Labor Act and the activities of the Safety Committee were also discussed. It commended the awareness activities of the Department of Factory and Establishment Inspection on compliance of health rules in various factories in the ongoing coronavirus infection situation.

The meeting discussed that in the current context, the issue of national occupational health and safety is very important. Decent and healthy workplace environment is closely linked to increasing productivity in the industrial sector. Occupational health and safety are currently a priority around the world. The safety of life is the first condition of action. The right to security is above all fundamental rights. With this goal in mind, the government has introduced a number of amendments to the Occupational Health and Safety Act in the Labor Act and has formulated a "National Occupational Health and Safety Policy" in November 2013. While the productivity and economic development of a country is heavily involved in the health of workers and the safety of the workplace, there is no substitute for ensuring occupational health and safety nationally at all levels of the very fast employer-worker-government.

The meeting discussed that the employer directly and indirectly benefits as an investor if he or she complies with the provisions of the labor laws and regulations regarding occupational health and safety. This increases productivity. "Investing in Workplace Safety is the Best Investment". Owners, managers, workers all have responsibilities under the labor law. As the worker has responsibilities, so does the employer. In addition to giving workers their due rights, they are called upon to be aware of occupational health and safety and to increase investment in these areas. This increases productivity. Productivity is closely linked to occupational health and safety. It was opined that we can build the dream of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman "Golden Bengal" only if all the workers and owners fulfill their responsibilities.
